The Muslim Writers Collective is a grassroots initiative dedicated to promoting storytelling in the Muslim American community. I was a founding member of the Bay Area chapter in 2014 and served on the board of the D.C. chapter from 2016-2020. MWC organizes monthly open mics, writing workshops and circles, an annual StorySlam competition and other collaborative events that promote the arts, diversity and community.

I created this day-long wellness retreat in 2019 with three other women who wanted to create a healing and empowering space for Muslim women through life coaching, movement, art and creative writing.

The Sanctuaries was a D.C.-based interfaith nonprofit that activates artists to build power, shift culture, and heal spirits through community organizing and social movements. I was a member of the Performance and Multidisciplinary arts teams before the nonprofit closed in 2021.

I was one of 10 artists in home [away from] home, an experimental art installation featuring artists in the Ethiopian and Eritrean communities of the Bay Area, culminating in a week-long festival of visual arts, music, dance, poetry, & food around the Eritrean and Ethiopian Gee’z New Year in 2014.
